Everybody loves to own an SUV in Dubai, and now with the Renault Duster, technically, you can. Exterior But lets face it. Its got some nice features but it's a pretty docile design even by their own standards. Renault have made the new Capture and the Clio, but the Duster's tame design is yearning for a makeover. Hexagonal headllamps in the front, small fog lamps and a pretty square front are not as exciting as the Ford Escape and Kia Sportage against which it competes. The rear is slightly more interesting, and hints the car might be quite spacious. Performance You get a 2 liter 4 cylinder engine producing 138 horsepower from 198 pounds of torque but using an old 4 speed automatic gearbox. You have the option of a 6 speed manual though and you can also choose between 4x4 or just 4x2 for the city. It's quite capable on the roads and even in the wadi thanks to the high 210mm ground clearance but perhaps not destined for the sand. Interior The interior is simple but tasteful. Even though there's a lot of hard plastics in there, the layout and design still works better than most cars and all buttons are easily within reach. There's and available auxiliary input and audio quality is pretty for a car at this price. The orange glow, from the gauges and looks especially cool at night. Bluetooth is not available which is a letdown, as this one of the most important safety features today. Comfort & Safety This is a pretty spacious car for a small family, especially one that likes to do lots of picnics and outdoor stuff. The front seats are comfortable and there's enough space for 3 children in the rear. The rear seats don't fold down all the way, but they still allow you to put lots of gear. The wide opening from the rear make it really easy to load and unload the car. The car features front airbags but rear ones are surprising optional. Even with all its flaws, the Renault duster offers the average dubai resident to have a much more exciting lifestyle at a very affordable price point. Then again, there's a lot more fish in the sea.
