The Outlander may not be the best known name on Dubai's roads but it's a perky little SUV that still has Mitsubishi's macho looks. Bumper This.. is.. Motopedia.ae! (to be said like a grand statement. Please 3-4 versions) Exterior The Outlander has more of a wagon style shape that has been given generous ground clearance to allow for some offroading action. Theres a minimalistic 2 line grille that gives the impression of a raised nose and air intake section. The sweeping range rover style headlamps are thin and wide yet, overall, they give quite a bland neutral appearance to the car. The rear features futuristic tail lamps but ends the story with the eights wagon style design. Performance With a choice of 2 engines, you can choose the economical but less fun 2.4 liter 4 cylinder engine, or a 3 liter 6 cylinder engine. The 2.4 will net you 123 horsepower and the 3 liter about 169, surprisingly not a huge amount of difference between the two engines. Even with the car being quite lightweight, the 3 liter didn't have the sort of driving experience that you would expect with a six cylinder engine. This is definitely something you can still use on your weekend out into the wadi, but this car faces stiff competition from the Koreans. Interior The Outlanders interior has been refreshed and follows a single horizontal dashboard with some carbon fiber feel. It's a simple interior, but its tastefully done except there a little bit of hard plastics on the sides. The center console features a 6.1 inch touch screen for your infotainment and the rear camera, although there's not sat nav. Steering wheel controls will give you Bluetooth, audio and cruise control options. We had fabric seats, although we've heard you can get leather as well. Overall, we felt the Outlander can and should offer better design and remove a truckish feel. Comfort & Safety The outlander is spacious for 7 passengers, and one of the best parts is the full flat folding seats which makes it an excellent cargo carrier as well. We feel, more SUV's should adopt this practice. You can buy features such as the automatic tailgate, electronic climate control and Mitsubishi's Rockford audio system, one of the best in the market, and it has hill descent systems for when you're off roading. You get driver and passenger airbags and curtain airbags in the rear along with Brake Assist and Forward Collision Mitigation. Car Rating Performance - 3 Styling - 3 Drive & Feel - 3 Technology - 3 Price - 3 Fuel Economy - 4 Summary Pros Full flat seats High ground clearance Cons Not enough power Truck feel and look The outlander could be your family SUV giving you fun in the city, and in the wadi's but it still needs more work to define exactly who it is. Then again, there's a lot more fish in the sea. Check out the Hyundai Santa Fe, Nissan X Trail, Toyota Rav 4, Kia Sorento and others on Motopedia.ae.
