This week, while we eat our caviar we review the uber elegant, uber stylish… actually… uber everything - Rolls Royce Phantom. At 20 feet in length the Phantom is a dauntingly large vehicle (equal to the size of the Chevrolet Suburban), with a mostly squared off look in the front and rear. This retro styling exudes an air of self confidence, away from the rif raf of other curvy cars on the road. The large chrome grille features a busy array of blades laid out opposing each other. Flanking the grille are the sleek rectangular headlamps, with a beautiful slit like lamp. Under that massive hood sits a V12 6.75 liter engine producing 453 horsepower and 531 pounds of torque with an 8 speed automatic transmission. 0-100 is astonishingly under 6 seconds considering the size and scale of this car. Its not the kind of car you hurl down curvy roads, simply because of its massive weight, but it gives you the most refined ride you will ever have on Dubai’s roads. In fact, even with that V12 engine, there’s a spooky silence inside the car, broken only with a very slight whoosh of the engine accelerating. The Phantom’s cabin is the definition of automotive opulence. Everything that you could and would want in a car is there, but set discreetly within the teak trim. A flat centre panel, rich with its wood trim in the middle and hand stitched leather on top, hides the beautiful 8.8 inch infotainment screen, clearly from BMW. Press a button under the hand rest, and the dial control glides out expertly placed right under your hand. While the Phantom is definitely built to be driven in, the driver himself can have a pretty good time up front. The seats are plush and cushion you well, and even with the long hood, you get a commanding view of the road. The rear is where you can sit back, relax and focus on whats important to you. Massive legroom, and a folding table that is also your TV screen allow you to either work, or be entertained and the hand rest gives you your own set of multimedia controls. The Phantom exudes wealth and exclusivity, making a statement where ever it goes. Its a true uber-premium sedan, complete with ample size, power and luxury.
