Its got a cult following, it's the most distinct brand on the market, its got lineage with the GTI and Sirocco and now VW says its even better. Beetle designers have done an excellent job keeping the spirit of the car in tact, while they infuse it with modernity. No more is this just the "cute" car, (although many will still feel that way). Now it's breathes with an air of self confidence, it hints at the power under the hood, and hints towards its brothers the GTI and Scirocco as well as its cousins, the Porsche. The rims and racing inspired tyres give a clue to its intentions. We received the 2 liter turbo charged version, the same engine powering the popular GTI. Needless to say, the 210 horsepower it produced was more than enough for a thrilling drive. In fact, the whole car was designed with the track in mind, because the suspension was very firm and the steering wheel took effort. The interior still has the beetle feel, but is again infused with more of VW's no nonsense German styling evident in the GTI, Passat and Scirocco. What you instantly notice is the yellow paneling across the front and glove compartment. Plasticky but doesn't feel cheap. The steering wheel and speedometer are standard VW items as is the center infotainment screens. Its well organized, and easy to reach and the aluminum finish on the gear feels good to touch. The front leather seats were comfortable, hugging us tight, even as we drifted in the car park! Up front, the Beetle is roomy and comfortable. Head, leg, and hip room are good. Controls for the seats, as well as the climate control and infotainment, are within easy reach for both driver and passenger. The back row will only allow the smallest of children and perhaps your pets and groceries, but it's a part time 4 seater at best. The trunk is 15.4 cubic feet, a pretty good amount for a fairly compact car. The standard beetle is an excellent buy, but we're not sure about our turbo charged version. If we wanted that drive, wouldn't the GTI with more space make more sense. Perhaps it VW's own GTI and Scirocco which will be the Beetle's biggest competitors!
