Intro One of the country's most popular cars came out recently and is now plastered on billboards everywhere. What else but the all new 2016 Toyota Camry! Exterior So they say it's a "Bold New Camry" and in part that's true because the exterior has become much more adventurous. From the front, you notice the headlamps have taken a cue from the Avalon with their wing shape. We really liked the lower air intake grille which almost feels like a samurai muzzle, and slit like fog lamps similar to what we've seen on the Lexus IS F Sport. The side profile is sleeker, but still Camry like while the rear pays homage to the ES 350. So does this collage of Toyota and Lexus inspired designs work. Yes and no. Yes, it looks like a more interesting car, but it doesn't feel like it has an identity that unique. Performance The Camry is fitted with a 4 cylinder 2.5 liter engine that churns out 181 horsepower using a six speed automatic transmission. Certainly, it feels very nippy and accelerates strongly through the gears. The ride is still very firm and Camry like, but the steering wheel can seem a bit too loose for some drivers. Our limited edition had paddle shifters, and while some 4 cylinder cars have them only for show, these really work on the Camry, confidently pushing the engine to higher revs. Interior One of Toyota's biggest challenges was an interior that was as dull as a game of checkers. (No offense to checker lovers, but seriously?) With the revamp, comes an interior upgrade that really brings the car back into the game with the Honda Accord and Nissan Altima. The front layout is minimalistic, but the dual layering on the side dash makes it much more interesting. The console layout hasn't changed much from the older camry, and the buttons unfortunately still feel rather cheap and plasticky. You get a 10 speaker JBL audio system and the sat nav screen is the same used across the entire lineup of Toyota and Lexus, although the graphics seem more refined. Steering wheel controls and themulti function driver information display between the speed gauge is an excellent addition, allowing you to see speed, fuel consumption and other details. Our limited edition had high quality, alcantara leather with color stitching that both felt and looked good. Comfort & Safety The front seats are comfortable with good side bolstering even for larger drivers. All round view is better than what Nissan and Honda offer. Families love storage space, and you'll find many in this Camry. The rear is really spacious with ample legroom for even taller passengers and with 60/40 folding seats, cargo room in the trunk is equally impressive. An automatic rear sunshade is a nice touch, especially during summer months. Camry has always been a safe car, and the 2016 model gives you front, side, rear and curtain airbags along with a high quality rear camera. Car Rating Performance - 4 Styling - 4 Drive & Feel - 4 Technology - 3 Price - 4 Fuel Economy - 4 Summary Pros Spacious and family oriented Responsive engine Value for money Fuel Efficient engine Cons Mix and match exterior Some cheap plastics inside The Camry's reliability above all else has been the sole reason for its popularity. Now, it offers some style and personality which is sure to make it a hot seller in the country. Who else is the competition.. the Honda Accord, Nissan Altima, Kia Optima, Hyundai Sonata, Mazda 6, VW Passat and others. See them on motopedia.ae!
