Hundreds of drivers take part in decorated car parade for National Day - Dubai

Hundreds of cars took part in a parade celebrating the 42nd National Day of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Monday. The event was organised as an attempt to set a world record for the largest decorated car parade in the capital of Abu Dhabi. Organisers failed to set the record as only 171 of the near 600 cars were eligible, due to guidelines established by the Guinness Book of World Records requiring half of the vehicle to be covered. The cars were decorated in bright colours and carried UAE flags. One car was painted to depict UAE President Khalifa Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, and another had a picture of UAE founder Zayed bin Sultan Al-Nahyan on its front. "I did it for the National Day, and I do it every year, and this is just my love for the country. Everyone does it and that is the reason," said Ravi Othessa, who participated in the parade. The UAE National Day celebrates the unification of the seven Emirates under one flag on 2 December 1971, according to the official website.
