A traffic patrol squad with the Dubai Police on Wednesday displayed a range of their luxury supercars at the ongoing 2013 Dubai International Motor Show in the United Emirates (UAE). The motorcade consisted of such high-end vehicles such as Mercedes-Benz SLS, Bentley Continental, Lamborghini Aventador, Ferrari FF, Chevy Camaro, and Aston Martin One-77. This is the first time for the patrol squad to turn out in full force at the biennial event that started on Tuesday. According to the Dubai Police, the supercars can help the police to pursue traffic violators at a high speed. As many motorists in the city own supercars, ordinary police vehicles cannot keep up with them when they run after violating traffic rules. Statistics show that 15 percent of Dubai's traffic violations are overspeeding. The maximum speed of all the patrol vehicles is over 300 kilometers per hour, faster than the 209 kilometers per hour, which is the speed of traffic rule violators. However, the main purpose of the exhibition by the police is to show off the extravagance of the city of Dubai. "I have driven Ferrari FF, Bentley, Benz SLS and many other luxury cars," said Maryam Zaraouni, a woman member of the Dubai Police Patrol, whose favorite is Ferrari. Zaraouni joined the patrol squad with three other women in April 2013. Zaraouni said many tourists would like to have a picture taken with two women members of the square, who patrol some of Dubai's famous landmarks, Even the Dubai Police said the primary purpose of establishing the patrol squad was to attract attention and show the financial power of Dubai. "Dubai is a highly modernized city. The Dubai Police, especially the patrol squad, has to keep up with with the modern style of the city. This squad is a name card of the city of Dubai," said Anas Al Matrooshi, deputy director of the Dubai Police's Transport and Rescue Department. As the largest motor show in the Middle East, this year's 12th edition has displayed over 600 vehicles, including 17 global debuts and 15 concept cars.
