It's one of the few cars on the road that can be fun, sporty and classy, all at the same time. At first glance, few will distinguish it from the Mk VI (pronounced Mach 6), but peer closer and you'll appreciate the subtlety of the detailing. The angles are now sharper and the "go-faster stripes" on the nose (a signature of the GTI since the Mk I) now dissect the headlights in an attempt to emphasize the car's width. You'll love the bi-xenon headlamps with LED daytime lamps. The GTI has always been known for its precise handling and the new GTI doesn't disappoint. Fitted with a 2 liter turbo charged engine, this car produces 220 horsepower, all given to the front wheels. Considering the size and weight of the car, that's A LOT of power at your hands! And lets not forget that its 43 kilos lighter than previous GTI's with 350 pounds of torque. "V dub" went all out on this one! Yet, at 6 liters per 100km this is very fuel efficient car! Among sporty hatchbacks, the 2014 GTI ranks at the top for interior quality. The retro-style plaid seat fabric on the base trim won't suit everyone, but the cabin reflects a cool and sophisticated design, featuring upscale Audi-esque trim and switchgear throughout. Overall, the layout is sensible, easy to access and very well built. The front seats are sporty and supportive, whether cruising or driving hard, while the rear seats offer a surprising amount of headroom and legroom for adults. The interior is 0.6-inch longer and mostly benefits the legs of rear seat passengers. Arms and elbows also enjoy more breathing room, while total cargo capacity with the rear seats folded yields an impressive 52.7 cubic feet. A lower load floor and wider hatch opening also make it easier to pack and remove cargo. The 2014 Volkswagen GTI delivers one of the best overall driving experiences in the class. The turbocharged engine is lively. The DSG transmission provides the convenience of an automatic and still makes the car feel quick, especially when you use the shift paddles to call up manual gear changes. The cabin is quiet, and the compliant suspension makes for a smooth and solid ride.
